The editor Dr Rochus Urban Hinkel, based in Stockholm, established AADR together with Spurbuchverlag in late 2012. The editor is supported by an Editorial Advisory Board and an Academic Advisory Board, with well-established academics from art, architecture, design, philosophy and related fields.
Rochus holds a PhD in Architecture from the University of Melbourne, and is a registered architect in Germany, a member of the Bund Deutscher Architekten BDA, a founding member of the Urban Interior Research Group at RMIT University in Melbourne as well as a founding member of the The Untitled Collective, based in Australia and Sweden. He was a member of the Design Research Institute DRI in Melbourne, Australia; and curator at the Weissenhof architecture gallery in Stuttgart, where he inaugurated the Weissenhof–Förderpreis.
Since 1996 Rochus has been teaching in architecture, interior design and furniture design; including the University of Arts, Crafts and Design, Konstfack, in Stockholm (since 2013); the School of Architecture and Design at RMIT University, Melbourne (2004-2012); the Architecture Design Innovation Program (ADIP) at TU Berlin (2009); the University of Stuttgart (2002) as well as the State Academy of Fine Art (1996-2001) in Stuttgart. Rochus has presented lectures and was a guest critic at ETH Zürich, Parsons School of Design New York, Rietveld Academy Amsterdam, University of Melbourne, KTH Stockholm, Unitec Auckland, University of Stuttgart, TU Berlin, amongst others.
